Anonymous asked: What are your opinions on this years Grammy nominees? And who do you think deserves to win for the categories?
I think most of the Grammy categories have completely missed anything besides what you would see on the Billboard top 100; meaning that the vast majority of them are not picking what the best album or artist, but rather who the best artist is that has been on the radio or television. This however is nothing new and is how the Grammys have always operated so to expect it to be any different would be silly of me.
Almost every major category is some combination of Katy Perry, Adele (meh), Bruno Mars, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga all of which are dreadfully unoriginal and uninteresting to me for the most part. None of the new artists are new at all, so that’s very confusing. If Skrillex wins a Grammy I will never watch them nor have anything do with them again, they will lose all credibility whatsoever. Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennet should win best duo hands down. Jeff Beck should win best rock album. Arguably Radiohead’s worst album should win best alternative album which says a lot. Kanye and Jay-Z are the only two that should even be mentioned in best rap song/performance, I mean honestly, Look At Me Now, The Show Goes On (Lupe’s worst song off of an album he says was terrible), Moment 4 Life, and Black And Yellow being nominated are a testiment to how little the academy has to say about rap music or knows about it. Man In Motion should win the best blues record. Femi Kuti should win the best world nom.
Really the only two things that sum up what the Grammys are, especially this year, are the wins that Louis C.K. and The Book Of Mormon deserve, because every major category looks like a really bad joke.
